Description:
A perfect high current diode, single rectifiers are a single, one-way electrical valve commonly deployed in dual battery configurations where a single auxiliary battery is dedicated for applications where discharge of the auxiliary battery is to be independent of the primary battery. Don't confuse POWER-GATE Battery Discharge Controllers with more common, lesser performing silicon and Schottky isolators. POWER-GATE sets the benchmark for ultra-low on-resistance which means devices require no heat sinking and no airflow at currents up to 300 Amps. Encapsulated in a custom, vacuum formed ABS package, single rectifiers are perfectly suited for high vibration, dirty and moist environments. POWER-GATE is recommended by top battery manufacturers to insure that DC power gets to where it's needed without the excessive heat and Voltage-loss typified by more common, lesser performing silicon and Schottky devices.

We often use the Perfect Switch POWER-GATE Single Rectifier Isolators on the solar charge controller output to the battery bank. This helps to elimninate "charging conflicts" that can occur when the solar array is charging as well as some other charging device like a battery charger, generator and so on. These devices are 100% solid state and 99.9% efficient and act as a "perfect diode" that only allows current to flow in one direction. As most solar charge controllers require the ability to "sense Voltage" bi-directionally along the positive power cable, we will supply a 5k Ohm "Resistor Bridge" that allows the Voltage Sensing but only allows a fraction of an Amp of current to flow across it. Add $20.00 USD for the resistor bridge to the cost of the Perfect Switch device.

Single Rectifier Isolator Information

POWER-GATE Single Rectifiers allow dual batteries to be charged from a single power source like an alternator or battery charger, and discharge a single auxiliary battery (or bank) without drawing current from a protected main starting battery (or bank).

For example, a vehicle may have one battery dedicated to the engine (ignition, starter, EFI, etc.) while the auxiliary or "house" battery is dedicated for auxiliary equipment (lights, inverter, computer, communications, etc.) With the vehicle running, all batteries get charged to the full Voltage regulation setpoint of the alternator. With the engine off, the auxiliary battery loads (lights, inverter, computer, communications, etc.) will continue to operate and discharge the dedicated auxiliary battery. During the auxiliary battery discharge, the POWER-GATE will not allow current to pass from the main starting battery to feed the auxiliary battery loads.

Conventional silicon and Schottky rectifiers can be economical, but have significant performance issues:

substantial Voltage drop as current passes
conductive losses create significant heat
batteries never get fully charged
alternator regulators always inaccurate due to diode drop

Electronic assembly inserted into ABS encapsulation shell then backfilled with black, flame retardent, filled epoxy specifically developed for the potting of electronic modules.

Four integrated mounting holes pre-drilled to .250"

Mounting posts, 5/16-18 x .50" with provided brass washers and nylon insert 5/16-18 nuts. Mounting torque not to exceed 75 inch-pounds or 8.5 newton-meters.
